Electric ferry sails world record distance on single charge
The ferry travelled more than 90km to and from an Interational Energy Conference in Sønderborg, Denmark.

Suitably, Ellen the ferry set the distance record on the longest single charge when returning from the conference on energy efficiency.
Danfoss supplied electric Editron drive trains and propulsion motors for the ferry, which they say costs 24% less to run than a new diesel ferry.
Henrik Hagbarth Mikkelsen, Senior Lecturer at Marstal Naval Academy in Denmark, helped design the ferry and says that its energy efficiency is 87% from the grid connection to the propellor, as opposed to a normal ferry which is around 30%.
The ferry normally only travels 40km between the islands of Ærø and Als in Southern Denmark, before recharging.
