Call for Input: AI-enabled clean energy system
Respond to the call for input by October 21 2026.
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has launched a call for evidence on its vision for an AI-enabled clean energy system.
The call highlights emerging thinking on opportunities created by AI in this sector, including forecasting, planning, optimisation and coordination. The government also seeks to investigate the risks and challenges associated with the integration of AI, including access to data, market incentives, governance and security.
IOM3 is seeking insights from our members on the relevance of materials, minerals and mining to an AI-enabled energy system, including risks, opportunities and best practices. We welcome contributions from across sectors, including insights from industry, academia and the wider professional community.
Some key questions posed by DESNZ include:
- Where and how can AI add the most value in the energy system?
- Which areas of the energy system should be priorities for government action to unlock near-term AI deployment?
- What are the UK’s main strengths in applying AI in the energy system, and where may the UK have a competitive advantage over other countries?
- What are the main barriers to the safe and effective deployment of AI in the energy system?
- What are the most material risks arising from more autonomous and integrated AI deployment in the energy system, and how can these best be managed?
