BP is looking to supply green hydrogen to Tees Valley Lithium, a subsidary of Alkemy Capital Investments, as part of its HyGreen Teeside project.

As well as switching from natural gas, TVL is seeking to produce the lowest carbon lithium hydroxide by sourcing low carbon feedstock and using offshore wind.

To meet the demand for planned European gigafactories, which currently have plans for 700GW worth, more than 325kt is required of lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate each

Train 1 of TVL's lithium hydroxide processing facility at the Wilton International Chemicals Park in Teesside, UK, will produce 24kt per annum of battery grade lithium hydroxide monohydrate.

When all four planned trains are completed they will produce a total of 96kt a year of LHM, representing 15% of Europe's projected 2030 demand.

TVL can divert 20% of the refinery's production capacity to produce lithium carbonate.
