Antofagasta Minerals launches remote mining management system
A mining management system will help oversee operations in Chile remotely and in real time, says Minera Centinela, part of the Antofagasta Minerals Group, as they inaugurate a new project.

The Integrated Operations Management (GIO) will also feature a Remote Operation Centre in the city of Antofagasta, an initiative part of the company’s digital roadmap.
Executive President of Antofagasta Minerals, Iván Arriagada, explains that the decision to develop the centre in the region was taken strategically as a sign of real commitment to the area and its growth.
‘As a Group that emerged from these lands, because here are our origins, it is a great pride to contribute to positioning Antofagasta as a pole of innovation for the mining of the future, and for Chile,’ explains Arriagada.
Head of the Regional Government's Development Division, Gabriela Gómez, adds that the new initiative is linked to their Regional Innovation Strategy 2022-2028. He says the strategy highlights three areas of development for the area: mining as an engine of economic development for sustainable development, mining 4.0 and the digital transformation of the industry, and boosting the knowledge economy in the mining value chain.
The company says the Remote Operation Centre of the GIO will have an endowment of 137 people and a 40% female labour participation.
Mayor of Antofagasta, Jonathan Velásquez, comments, ‘The increase in female labour participation in this operation is good news, because its inclusion allows us to grow as a society, generating greater opportunities and conditions of equality, recovering the sources of employment reduced during the health emergency.’
