2021 Message from IOM3HK President

Subsequent to the IOM3 (Hong Kong Branch) AGM on 30 April 2021, our President, Mr. Tim Leung has given his message to the members.

Dear Members and Friends

On behalf of the IOM3HK, I would like to thank you for your continuousley strong support in the challenging year of 2020. Although 2020 became history, the coronavirus pandemic situation is still adversely impacting the whole system around the world. Our activities are being significantly affected. As we are now living in a fast-changing world, like other international organisations, IOM3HK has made Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube so that we can continue to connect with you.

To echo the vision from the IOM3 headquarters in the United Kingdom, 2021 is an important year to move to a low-carbon and resource-efficient society. The IOM3HK would organise a series of events that could be associated with helping to build the momentum for the the theme of a 'Sustainable Future'.

To start with, since underground space plays an essential role in the sustainable development especially in Hong Kong with the land supply issue, it is our honor and privilege to have the President of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA); Vice President of the Chinese Tunnelling and Underground Works Society and Deputy General Manager of China Railway Academy Co., Professor Jenny Yan, to deliver a webinar on 'Development of Tunnelling Technology in the Chinese Mainland over the Past 40 Years' with the Guest of Honor, Dr Raymond Cheung, Head of the Geotechnical Engineering Office of Civil Engineering and Development Department of HKSAR, to give a speech on 'Tunnelling, Quarrying and Rock Cavern Development in Hong Kong' in our AGM 2021 on 30 April.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to our Council in particular for overcoming all the difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stay safe and healthy!

Tim Leung, CEng FIMMM FICE FHKIE
