One of Sheffield's major steel makers has recently changed ownership. David Scaife, the Chief Financial Officer of The Long Products Business including the UK, will give a talk entitled `A New Start for SMACC'. He will highlight the impact of this change in ownership on the facilities in Sheffield.
SMACC stands for Stainless Melting and Continuous Casting and was built in the 1970s as part of the development on Shepcote Lane site in Sheffield to develop a World Class Stainless Steel business in the UK. But following two mergers with Scandinavian companies the facilities at SMACC became underutilised and a billet caster was installed to enable a focus on the production of Long Products. Subsequently the owners Outokumpu, sold most of its Long Products business to Marcegaglia. David will describe the changes the business has gone through and what the future holds.
The lecture will be in person and online. Tea and coffee will be available from 6pm and the lecture will start at 6.15pm. We aim to finish around 7.15pm.
