On 25 September 2023 (11:00 - 18:00), we are hosting the annual lecture of the Energy Materials Group  (EMG) of IOM3. It will be combined with an exciting workshop/networking/podcast event for emerging leaders in the broad field of energy materials. We will host the meeting jointly with the student and early career committee (SECC) and the women in materials, minerals, and mining committee (WIM3). The meeting welcomes, in particular, PhD students, postdocs, early career in industry and those from diverse backgrounds.

One role EMG is to highlight the fundamental role of materials for low carbon energy, towards net zero. The conference will focus on the ever present and critical materials issues for reducing energy consumption and green energy generation and storage.  The meeting will cover wide ranging materials research for developing new technologies, e.g. solar, wind, electrolysis, batteries, low loss electronics, etc.

You will hear from:

  • The energy materials annual lecturer is: Prof. Serana Cussen, Sheffield University who will talk on battery research.
  • Two other early career invited speakers are Dr. Dragos Neagu, Strathclyde who will talk on 'Nanostructured materials for electrochemical and catalytic energy conversion’  and Dr. Robert Hoye, Oxford, who will talk on perovksite inspired semiconductors for energy harvesting, detectors, and solar fuels.

We will accept around 5 other speakers and 20 posters. In addition, we will host a roundtable discussion for female participants, discussing ways to advance their careers.

The total number of participants is limited to 60, thefore we will accept attendees on a first come, first served basis.

Energy Materials Group Conference Call for Papers

The event provides a forum to present academic and industrial research in energy materials. A poster session will allow additional opportunities to showcase early-stage research and demonstrate industrial product development. Don’t miss this opportunity to present your work to a mixed audience of academics, consultants and industry professionals.

Abstracts for both oral presentation and poster presentations will be considered. Please submit your title and an abstract of up to 250 words to the conference organisers by 8 September 2023. Abstracts will be reviewed by the scientific committee, headed by Judith Driscoll.

Why you should attend the conference

The one-day conference provides an ideal opportunity for networking, while allowing delegates to present and discuss their work from a wide range of backgrounds. The new connections and context given by talking with experts in energy materials, and from other fields offer many opportunities to strengthen and create active UK-based research networks, and to stimulate new ideas which will benefit the industry in years to come.

This activity is approved for Professional Development by the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining

Approved for CPD by IOM3 recognises the importance of ongoing learning for professional development.  This could be through the attendance of a single lecture, a series of lectures, or a conference, in person, virtually or in a blended format.  We understand the need to keep your knowledge up to date and the value of peer-to-peer networking.
