Materials Challenges for Sustainable Aerospace
Coventry & Warwickshire Materials Society (CWMS) is pleased to announce our second in-person technical event with a lecture by IOM3 President, Neil Glover entitled Materials Challenges for Sustainable Aerospace.
Neil will outline the challenges and opportunities for Materials Science and Engineering in the delivery of sustainable and decarbonised aerospace. The talk will address future gas turbine materials, alternate and sustainable aviation fuels including hydrogen and the technologies required for hybrid and electric flight.
In addition to his Fellowship and current Presidency of IOM3, Neil is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Head of Materials Research and Materials Technology Fellow at Rolls-Royce, based in Derby. He has 25 years of experience of materials engineering for aerospace and other high integrity applications. His current role is focused on materials technology to support new product opportunities in Rolls-Royce including electric and hybrid flight. Previous roles have spanned multiple business sectors and materials engineering across the product life cycle. For many years Neil was responsible for Rolls-Royce’s aerospace materials research portfolio, including the company’s extensive external network for materials research.
The event will begin with refreshments at 18:00 and the lecture will start at 18:30. It will take place in lecture theatre ECG-27 at the Frank Whittle Engineering & Computing Building of Coventry University at 3 Gulson Rd, Coventry, CV1 2JH. https://goo.gl/maps/wuGvRgmTCWRsKBoZ7
Although we hope as many as possible will attend in person, the lecture will also be available on-line. Please register for the event via the link and on registering please indicate whether you plan to participate in person or on-line.
As a further incentive for in-person attendance, CWMS will award the first ten postgraduate or undergraduate students to register and then attend the lecture free membership of IOM3 for a year.
