The union says this comes after site workers rejected a pay offer from company management.

Accordingly, 90% of votes are said to support industrial action, with 100 workers expected to join strike action later this month.

Mountsorrel is Europe’s largest quarry, producing aggregate materials for construction, road and rail projects across the UK.

GMB Organiser, David Warwick, says, 'These workers just want a pay packet that cover the bills and lets them spend time with their families. Too many are having to sign up to gruelling overtime schedules, just to make ends meet.

'The materials our members produce are vital for UK house building, not to mention road and rail projects across the country. It’s inevitable that strike action could cause huge knock on disruption if this isn’t resolved, and fast'.
