IOM3 2025 End of Year Review
As 2025 comes to a close, we reflect on a year of progress and connection across the Institute.
This year saw the Membership Strategy embedded, our journals partnership continue to mature and clearer, more joined-up marketing and communications take shape. Alongside this, there were moments that brought our community together, featuring the launch of our flagship event, Materials, Minerals & Mining for People, Places, Planet (M3P3), the growth of our #WeAreIOM3 campaign and the increasing reach of our policy and influence work.
IOM3 President Christine Blackmore CEnv CSci FIMMM reflects on a busy and rewarding year spent meeting members, students and early-career professionals across the UK, supporting local societies and technical communities and championing responsible and sustainable practice. Her reflections underline the importance of connection, inclusion and encouragement as the Institute looks to the future.

IOM3 CEO, Colin Church CEnv FIMMM, highlights a year shaped by stability and delivery, with strong engagement across events, publications, training and outreach and an operational surplus that enables continued charitable activity and member benefit.
Highlights from 2025 include:
- Delivering 79 webinars, 12 in-person events and four hybrid events, with over 7,000 registrations from 27 countries
- Successfully running #M3P3 for the first time, bringing together all 22 Technical Communities
- Launching our #WeAreIOM3 campaign to celebrate member voices
- Publishing a landmark policy report on materials, minerals and mining in delivering the UK Government’s Plan for Change
- Expanding professional development through 46 training courses and strong engagement with awards and prizes
- Growing digital engagement through podcasts, webinars and online news
- Receiving external recognition, including two Highly Commended awards at the 2025 Memcom Excellence Awards
None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our members, volunteers and staff teams, whose time, expertise and commitment continue to shape IOM3 and its impact.
