The four studies produced by the ORE Catapult research centre, were part of an initiative by the British Embassy in Santiago, Chile.

The recommendations cover key areas for development, including ports, electricity transmission, maritime planning, energy policy, workforce development, environmental considerations and supply chains.

It aims to contribute to the creation of a competitive, scaleable and attractive market for private investment.

The favourable findings for Chile suggest a range of complementary actions will be needed to translate this potential into concrete projects.

The key ones identified include strengthening regulatory and permitting frameworks, enhancing coordination among public institutions, ensuring timely planning of electricity transmission infrastructure, as well as supporting the development of local capabilities, a skilled workforce and domestic supply chains.

The research also highlights the importance of adopting an integrated approach to sector development by aligning energy, port and spatial planning with a long-term strategy that provides certainty for investors.

The government has released the findings ahead of a British embassy event on 12 August where the studies will be presented.

The studies were ultimately funded by the UK Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade.
