The IOM3 Cementitious Materials sub-group brings together professionals from industry, academia, and policy organisations who share a common interest in cement and concrete science, technology, and application. The sub-group provides a forum for advancing understanding of cementitious materials and their role in delivering sustainable and resilient infrastructure.
The Cementitious Materials Group promotes the dissemination of knowledge on the science and engineering of cementitious systems through seminars, meetings, and publications. The group has long-standing links with UK and international organisations and societies, such as RILEM and the American Concrete Institute (ACI). Its activities encompass a broad range of topics, including sustainable cement manufacture, durability and performance of concrete, materials characterisation, standards development, and innovation in low-carbon cement technologies.
Aims
- A key activity of the Group is the organisation of the annual Cement and Concrete Science Conference, a flagship event in the UK research calendar that has been running for over forty years. This longstanding conference provides a platform for researchers, practitioners, and students to present new findings, exchange ideas, and strengthen collaborations across the cement and concrete community.
- The Group also organises the Students Symposium, supporting postgraduate researchers through opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange, and skills development.
- In addition to the annual conference, the Group maintains strong links with industry and academia, facilitating dialogue between researchers, manufacturers, designers, and policy makers.
- The Cementitious Materials Group reports to the IOM3 Ceramics Group and contributes to the Institute’s mission of supporting materials, minerals, and mining professionals in advancing sustainable materials for the benefit of society.
