The ‘Cost’ of Sustainability – Who Pays?
Loughborough University, Wednesday 24 July 2024

The conference focuses on the theme ‘cost' of sustainability from commercial, economic, design, environmental and behavioural perspectives.

Doors open at 8.45am with light refreshments.
The conference will start at 9.30am

Presentations from:
• Mark Shayler, Keynote Address. You Can't Make Money from a Dead Planet: The sustainable method for driving profits. Working with clients including Nike, Coca Cola, Samsung and John Lewis, Mark helps big companies think small and small companies think big. Making stuff better and making better stuff.
• Harshal Gore, Head of Strategy & External Relations pEPR, DEFRA. Latest developments from DEFRA on sustainable packaging. Harshal is a Senior Executive driving impact through digital and industry collaboration strategies with the vision to put societal and environmental needs at the forefront of industry ambition.
• Lucy Eggleston, Senior Consultant, Eunomia. The Price is Tight: balancing cost and sustainability in packaging closed loop recycling. With a material science and engineering background, her expertise is in extended producer responsibility, design for recycling, and sustainable packaging solutions.
• Gary Tee, Tipa Compostables. The value of compostable packaging and the benefits that it brings as a mainstream solution. Gary has been involved in the -flexible packaging industry for over 30 years. Driven by sustainability, he takes pride in helping retailers, brands, and converters make the switch to compostable ¬flexible packaging.
• James Pryor, Touch Design. Designing with climate in mind. Realising business transformation and game-changing innovation through physical packaging and product design.
• Aaron Tucker – Michigan State Univ, USA. Looking toward the future! He will explore the latest research and trends shaping the future of packaging conducted by faculty in the School of Packaging at MSU.
• Nikki Clark, Loughborough Univ. Mapping the value of Sustainable Design for reusable packaging. Exploring the four different perspectives of value (economic, psychological, sociological and ecological) and their impact when developing a reusable packaging service.

The conference closes at 4.30pm.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

School of Design and Creative Arts, Loughborough University. LE11 3TU. Car parking is available in car park 9, which is situated close to the School of Design.
