MoU seeks to formalise artisanal and small-scale gold mining
The World Gold Council and the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative aim to improve transparency in the sector.
The goal is to establish a framework to strengthen artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) governance.
The EITI, whose focus is on transparency of oil, gas and mineral resources, looks to improve traceability in ASGM.
The three-year collaboration will support responsible integration of artisanal gold into formal global supply chains through publications, guidance documents, pilot projects, knowledge-sharing initiatives and international convenings.
