IOM3 launches inaugural Mining Masterclass

IOM3 launches its first‑ever Mining Masterclass, developed with Cornish Lithium to support STEM teachers.

The Education & Outreach team are proud to be working alongside Cornish Lithium on the first ever Mining Masterclass that will be running on 26 and 27 June. This is a free, two-day, residential course for 11-19 STEM teachers (in particular science, design & technology, geography and geology), and we are thrilled to announce that it is already fully booked.

The course has been designed to support and improve teachers’ understanding of the minerals and mining aspects of the curriculum. The mining industry is an area people often have misconceptions about. The Mining Masterclass will present a more positive view of the mining industry and highlight the crucial role mining plays in every aspect of society.

Sponsorship

The Mining Masterclass is helping teachers to shape the next generation of STEM talent, and we are inviting industry partners to be part of that impact. To keep the course free for teachers and be able to offer them a contribution to travel and cover costs, we are relying on the support of companies working within the mining sector.

We're grateful to our current sponsors for their support:

  • MAUK
  • Midlands Institute of Mining Engineers
  • Camborne School of Mines/University of Exeter
  • Western Institute of Mining and Minerals
  • ABMEC
  • BAM

By sponsoring the programme, you can directly support teachers, inspire young people and showcase your commitment to a sustainable future for mining. In return, sponsors gain meaningful visibility at the events and opportunities to engage with educators.

We are currently seeking sponsors for the Mining Masterclass would welcome the opportunity to partner with organisations committed to education and the future of mining.
