The year-long programme aims to demonstrate that reusable fibre-based packaging is a credible option when provided to e-commerce customers at scale.

The target is to reuse 250,000 packages over a 12-month period through the recirculation of returned packaging.

Denmark-based start-up RE-ZIP, which is providing a traceability app to track returns, will manage the programme’s operation and is joined by two collaborators – DS Smith, a global provider of fibre-based and sustainable packaging solutions, and the RAJA Group, a Europe-based multichannel distributor of supplies and equipment for businesses.

Both will be responsible for ensuring the reusable packaging solutions are in optimum condition before they are returned to the e-commerce marketplace.

The partners selected 20 businesses and brands from across the French e-commerce sector to participate in the initiative and they say that it could be rolled out to other European countries and participants from next year.
