Editors of STWJ
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Science and Technology of Welding and Joining (STWJ) - an international peer-reviewed journal covering both the basic science and applied technology of welding, joining and metal additive manufacturing. Since its inception back in 1996, STWJ has published 2,323 articles and received 65,000 citations. In the past three decades, the journal has been at the forefront of publishing high-quality scientific and technical papers on various emerging and advanced topics such as friction stir welding, additive manufacturing and more recently machine learning and artificial intelligence. To commemorate this special occasion, this proposed special issue calls for short perspectives and review articles on the current status and future outlook of the field.
- Short perspectives preferably would have less than 3500 words (inclusive of abstract and references). They preferably should have no more than 6 display units (i.e., figures and/or tables). For an example of a short perspective article, please see here.
- Review articles should preferably be no more than 10000 words, inclusive of - Abstract (an unstructured abstract of 200 words) and References. The number of display units [figures + tables] should be appropriate for the scope of the review article. For an example of a review article, please see here.
Flexibility on the word count and number of display items will be exerted by the editors when appropriate for the scope of the article.
The submission deadline for this special issue is Oct. 31, 2026. The target publication date would be early 2027. All published articles in the special issue, if not already Open Access, will be made Free to Access for two years from the date of the publication.
To help the editors with planning, it is very much appreciated if the potential contributor can fill out the following Qualtrics survey to indicate their interest.
