Brick Awards 2025 winners announced

The Brick Development Association (BDA) is awarding exemplary applications of clay brick in the built environment sector.

Now in their 49th year, the Brick Awards are the UK’s longest-running awards programme celebrating excellence in clay-brick architecture.

The BDA has announced this year’s winning projects, which it says showcase an extraordinary breadth of creativity, technical mastery and sustainable ambition.

Category winners were chosen from a shortlist of projects evaluated by a judging panel of industry leaders based on their design excellence, craftsmanship, sustainability performance and visual impact.

The 14 category winners are:

  • Commercial: Island, Manchester – Cartwright Pickard
  • Craftsmanship: Silvertown Tunnel (pictured above), London – dRMM Architects (also the Supreme Award and Contractors' Choice)
  • Education: Pembroke Mill Lane, Cambridge – Haworth Tompkins
  • House builder: Crest Nicholson (Brooklands – Jennings Design Architects and Gloucester Quays – Holder Mathias Architects)
  • Individual housing development: W House, London – Bureau de Change
  • Two-to-100-unit housing development: Lambton Park, Newcastle-upon-Tyne – Pod
  • Large housing development: Bulrush Court, London – Pitman Tozer Architects
  • Innovation: TIDE Bankside, London – Squire & Partners
  • Public: BEAM, Hertford – Bennetts Associates
  • Refurbishment: Tileyard North, Wakefield, West Yorkshire – Hawkins/Brown
  • Specialist brickwork contractor: Swift Brickwork Contractors (The Oren – Stanton Williams and The Bishops Stortford High School – Bond Bryan)
  • Sustainability: The Bustardthorpe Development York Racecourse – Dawson Williamson Architects
  • Urban regeneration: Ross Street Mews, Belfast – Studiorogers Architects
  • Worldwide: The City of Indigenous Arts, Mexico – Estudio MMX
  • Architects' Choice: Marylebone Place, London – Fletcher Priest Architects

Categories were open only to UK-based projects, except for the worldwide section, which accepted international entries.

The annual awards seek to honour the architects, developers, contractors, brick manufacturers and skilled bricklayers elevating architectural standards and demonstrating the potential of clay brick as an innovative and future-proof material.

The BDA’s CEO Rob Flello says, ‘[The awards] showcase the incredible diversity and versatility of clay brick. This year’s winners demonstrate how [the material] continues to deliver beauty, durability and genuine sustainability.’
