£3mln to sponsor sustainability research

Cranfield University, UK, will receive the multi-million pound donation over the next three academic years to support 'green initiatives'.

The donation is from Green Future Investments Ltd, UK, which backs innovative technological projects or organisations tackling climate change challenges.

The GFIL Future Frontiers Fund will support ideas, products and technologes around climate change solutions - awarding innovators grants three times a year.

The GFIL Technology Accelerator Fund supports businesses and individuals proving product or technology on a practical scale. Cranfield University will make six awards to innovators each year to take ideas from the workbench to prototype.

The GFIL Green Future Entrepreneurship Fund aims to support the next generation of Cranfield businesses, with a Green Seed Fund, Ready for Net Zero Growth programme scholarships, and Student Entrepreneur Prizes.

The first cohort of postgraduates to received £20k for tuition fees and living expenses from The Brian Meredith Net Zero Scholarship programme began their  studies this month.

GFIL was established to continue the environmental legacy of entrepreneur and ex-IBM engineer Brian Meredith.
