Martin Ansell FIMMM
Dr Martin P Ansell graduated with a BSc in Materials Science from the University of Sussex and a PhD in Solid State Physics from the University of London. Following two years of R&D experience at Standard Telecommunication Laboratories developing new glass formulations he changed fields radically to take up a post-doctoral position working on structure-related properties of wood at the University of Bath.
In 1979, Martin was appointed to a lectureship in the School of Materials Science and over the years developed a reputation for his work on the fatigue of laminated wood for wind turbine blades, the creep and fatigue of wood-based panel products, the performance of bonded-in connections for timber and the properties of natural fibre composites. Martin was President of the Institute of Wood Science from 1994-1996 and he is currently Reader in Materials in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath.
