Western Institute of
Mining and Minerals (WIMM) Annual Dinner 2012

WIMM had a lot
to celebrate at their annual dinner 2012 - not only has the branch been in
existence 140 years, we were very pleased to have been awarded the society of
the year by IOM3.

Our President
(Christine Blackmore) opened the proceeding with a short speech and
introduction of her Presidential guests; Nick Watson (Technical Director at
Wardell Armstrong International), Geoff Buck (Managing Director of Aspen
Environmental), Prof. Peter Styles (former Head
of Earth Sciences at Keele University) and Julian Spears (Hon. Secretary
and Technical Director of Wardell Armstrong International).  The guest of honour was Merlin Thomas
(General Manager of Mauritanian Copper Mines, Mauritania, West Africa), who
made a special effort to be with us on the evening.

As the annual dinner (21 April 2012) was on
the Queen's birthday and in her  Jubilee 60
years as well, a toast to the Queen was made by one of our longest serving
members, Ken Laird (former Mining Inspectorate), and also one of the Presidential
guests.  The event was held at Keele Hall,
a former stately home on the Keele Campus.
The evening included a 5 course meal and the entertainment had a World
War II theme, with lots of patriotic singing and flag waving.

A special thank you is given to our corporate
friends, CERAM table led by Tony Kinsella, Wardell Armstrong LLP tables led by
Mark Bedford and Paul Grocott, Parsons Brinkerhoff table led by Steve Maju and
Wardell Armstrong International table led by Andy Birtles.
