A Great Night at the Museum

South Wales Materials Association
29 Jul 2010

Over 150 guests from Industry and Universities attended the annual South Wales Materials Association (SWMA) dinner at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea on 8 July 2010. Corus and Tata were strongly represented, with employees in the roles of President, Vice President and Secretary of the SWMA.

The event, organised and sponsored by the SWMA, included a dinner, musical entertainment and warmly received speeches and was a great success. Recently appointed Director of New Product Development for Tata Steel Europe, Phil Clements, gave a speech on the subject of Innovation and Collaboration,  reflecting on recent ‘Weathering the Storm' activities at Corus, which are an amazing example of how a combination of teamwork, innovation and collaboration are the keys to both survival in a tough economic climate and also to future prosperity. President of the SWMA and Manager of Through Process Technical at Corus Port Talbot Brian Edy also commented on how these qualities are essential to build strong bonds and networks between other Welsh industries and academic organisations. Overall the event gave a great opportunity for promoting Corus and Tata as an innovative company with a vision of a successful future in South Wales and an example to other industries in Wales.
