South Wales and Western Polymer Group Student Award 2008
The annual student lecture award, sponsored by the South Wales and Western Polymer Group, was held at the School of Engineering, University of Wales Swansea in March.
The winner was undergraduate student Samuel Lester, who presented an excellent talk on ‘Polymer Electronics - Measurement of Fine Lines for Conducting Tracks'.
The project investigated the variables involved with flexographic printing of silver tracks onto a flexible substrate. The topic reflects the wider range of interdisciplinary projects now available to undergraduate students of materials within the School of Engineering.
Sam was presented with a copy of the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics as a prize.
There was also a postgraduate presentation by Martin Williams on ‘A New Method for Recycling Rubber', referring to plasma activation of ground tyre rubber to improve compatibility, developed with assistance from the University.
