Ken Barraclough Memorial Lecture - The Pioneers of Stainless Steel 1900 - 1973
Dr David Dulieu presented the Ken Barraclough Memorial Lecture in 2006. He has now officially retired from Outokumpu Stainless and this has given him more time to explore the history of stainless steel. He has written a book, which will be published to coincide with the Harry Brearley Centenary.
On 19th of March he will present The Pioneers of Stainless Steel, 1900 – 1970. He will cover mainly British contributors to the development and understanding of stainless steels, including Brearley, Monypenny, Bull, Hatfield, Sykes, Middleton and Oliver, who represented leading Sheffield Steelworks in this very competitive era. He will also acknowledge the ‘supporting cast’ who worked on process and engineering to develop arc furnace practice, secondary refining and continuous casting and the contribution from Sheffield University. Those who have read the proof of David’s book assure me that it is a fascinating read and his lecture will be equally enthralling.
Immediately following the lecture, at approximately 7.30, will be THE MEMBERS’ DINNER. The price for the dinner plus wine and coffee is only £20.00. Members are limited to one guest.
