Magic of Materials Summer School
This event is being run jointly by IOM3 and St Paul's School.
Following on from the success of 2015 and 2016 we are once again running the Magic of Materials Summer School for pupils at the end of year 10 (or equivalent).
This free, three day residential taster course will give those attending the opporunity to explore the material world by attending lectures and practical classes on metals, polymers, ceramics and composites and some of the more fundamental science of materials, such as understanding strcuture and properties.
There are 28 places available on the course but the sessions will be run for much smaller groups of seven in order to allow everyone the opportunity to get involved and experience materials first hand. Each group will have two mentors to encourage the delegates to get involved and answer any questions.
Due to the nature of the boarding house there are 14 places for boys and 14 for girls and full pastoral care is provided outside of the formal teaching sessions.
The course is open to pupils in state schools from across the UK and we are looking for people that have a passion for STEM subjects that will been keen to join in. In order to encourage those from disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented groups to attend we are able to offer a bursary of upto £100 to contribute towards travel.
