The International Rubber Conference Organisation Celebrates Success
In early September 2018, the International Rubber Conference (IRC) 2018 was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The conference attracted over 500 delegates from 35 countries with over 150 papers presented and over 200 exhibitors from 14 countries.
During the conference dinner, the International Rubber Conference Organisation (IRCO) was pleased to present the IRCO Medal to Professor Liqun Zhang, Dean of the College of Materials Science & Engineering at Beijing University of Chemical Technology in the People’s Republic of China, the IRCO Medal is awarded for outstanding services to the cause of International Rubber Conferences worldwide.
In 2016, the IRCO introduced the IRCO Student Prize, and at IRC 2018 there were prizes for the Best Oral Presentation by a Student and the Best Poster Presentation by a Student, the winners were announced at a Special Ceremony on the final day of the conference and were:

2nd. Zhanbin FENG - Beijing University of Chemical Technology, China
3rd. Naoki YAJIMA - University of Tsukuba, Japan
1st. Kanpitcha AMORNJIARASAK - Mahidol University, Thailand
2nd. Kosuke MIYAJI - Kyoto Institute of Technology, Japan
3rd. Sirawan KAEWSIKOUN - Mahidol University, Thailand
The first placed winners received a cheque for £400, second placed £250 and third placed £100. IRC 2018 was organised by the Plastics and Rubber Institute Malaysia.
IRCO is now looking forward to two conferences in 2019, in September, IRC 2019 will be held in London, UK, it is the first time that conference has been held in the UK since 2001 and will also mark the both the 150th anniversary of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and the 200th anniversary of Thomas Hancock’s pioneering work with natural rubber. The Call for Papers is now open and Exhibition spaces are available.
In April 2019, the IRC’s sister conference, RubberCon 2019, will be held in Hangzhou, China. The RubberCon series provides for smaller, more specialised events, but still adhering to the high IRCO standards.
