Pilot wind-to-hydrogen project

Siemens Gamesa is developing a pilot, the Brande Hydrogen project, to produce hydrogen directly from wind, and potentially connect to the grid.

The pilot project in Denmark is undergoing permitting and is intended to be live by January 2021 to field-test the technology for producing hydrogen directly from wind energy.

As part of this project, Siemens Gamesa has partnered with Everfuel to distribute the hydrogen output for refueling taxis across Denmark. When fully operational, the project’s single turbine will produce enough hydrogen to fuel around 50-70 taxis each day.

The pilot includes a 3 MW Siemens Gamesa wind turbine, to power a 400 kW electrolyser. This machine splits water into oxygen and hydrogen.
