With emissions, climate disasters and energy market volatility all rising, the outlook states that governments need to send an unmistakable signal of clean energy ambition and action at  the COP26 conference on climate change in Glasgow to accelerate the transition.

'The social and economic benefits of accelerating clean energy transitions are huge, and the costs of inaction are immense,’ says Faith Birol, IEA Executive Director.

Against the backdrop of turbulent markets and a crucial meeting of COP26 the 2021 World Energy Outlook provides an indispensable guide to the opportunities, benefits and risks ahead at this vital moment for clean energy transitions.

The WEO is the energy world’s most authoritative source of analysis and projections, says IEA. This flagship publication of the IEA has appeared every year since 1998. The aim is to provide objective data and dispassionate analysis to offer critical insights into global energy supply and demand in different scenarios and the implications for energy security, climate targets and economic development.
