IOM3 2021 end of year review

As we look ahead to 2022, IOM3 shares its highlights of 2021 in our end of year review focused on the activities of the Institute.

As our President, Neil Glover FREng CEng FIMMM look backs over 2021, he says, ‘In my Inaugural Address, I spoke about the strong relevance of our profession to the global challenges we all face. Materials, minerals and mining will truly be at the heart of delivering the necessary technological solutions for a decarbonised future. The IOM3 Sustainable Future theme throughout 2021 has emphasised the role of materials professionals in the run up to COP26.’

Among many highlights was our growth in membership, with a year-on-year growth of 3.8%. Our CEO Dr Colin Church CEnv FIMMM highlights this: ‘Like many other professional bodies, we started the year unsure of what would happen to our members and their involvement with IOM3. I am delighted therefore with the growth in numbers of members during 2021, especially at MIMMM level, particularly when some other professional engineering institutions have seen their paying member numbers decline.’

Some highlights for IOM3 in 2021 include:

  • 806 new Professional Members (MIMMM)
  • 1 Hybrid conference (EEC)
  • 7 virtual / multi-day conferences hosted
  • 19 training courses held with 200 registrations
  • 53 webinars hosted by IOM3 Events
  • 70+ nationalities represented by delegates at IOM3 Events
  • 170 nominations at the 2021 IOM3 Awards & Prizes and Education Awards
  • 800 increase in Twitter followers
  • 8,131 total registrations for our events
