Supporting teachers in promoting positive perceptions of polymers
Registrations are now open for the new improved Polymer Study Tours!
This year we have adopted a new format, with new and exciting sessions linked directly to the 11 to 18 Design and Technology specifications. The two day courses have been carefully put together to include discussion sessions based on detailed information which will be distributed before your arrive, practical sessions using readily avaiable resources to demonstrate key polymer-related concepts and a chance to witness the plastics industry in action during a tour round a busy manufacturing plant. The sessions will all be led by experts from industry and academia and the Tours will include a crucial final session, led by a practicing teacher, looking at how you can use the content from the course in your classroom teaching. All delegates will receive a comprehensive resource pack following the event, including electronic literature and physical samples.
This year the courses will be held at Edinburgh Napier University (16-17 June), Victrex in Lancashire (23-24 June) and WHS Plastics in Warwickshire (27-28 September). They are FREE to attend, all meals, refreshments, and overnight accomodation are included, and they are open to practicing and trainee Design and Technology teachers from schools across the UK. In addition, to make it easier for you attend, all delegates are eligible to apply for a bursary of up to £250 to contribute towards the cost of cover or travel.
The Polymer Study Tours are organised by a Steering Committee comprised of members from The Worshipful Company of Horners', the primary sponsor, the British Plastics Federation and the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. We are extremely grateful to our course hosts for giving their time and resources to run the Tours and to the UK Plastics industry for their sponsorship, without which the Tours would not be possible.
