Professional development guidance - MyCareerPath

Please read the following guidance for recording your professional development on mycareerpath, the PD recording system for IOM3 members, which you can access from your Member Profile page. (Members need to log in to access this.)

When you first access mycareerpath, the IOM3 website will pass on your name, membership number and email address to the system to set up your account on mycareerpath. You will be asked to accept the mycareerpath Privacy Notice before using the system, which is provided and managed by The Engineering Council.

NB if you have PD or CPD records for previous years in electronic format or as a scan of a paper record, you can upload these as Evidence for that particular year.
Your IOM3 CPD records for 2014 and previous years will remain on our database and can be accessed by contacting the Membership Team.

The guidelines below are for the following:

A) members working towards a registration who need to record PD against specific competences
B) members who are already registered and wish to record CPD

Please also refer to the full mycareerpath User Guide available for download at the bottom of the page

If you have any queries about recording your professional development or using mycareerpath which are not covered below or in the Help Guide, please contact us on cpd@iom3.org

A) If you are aiming to complete the requirements for Registration and need to record Initial Professional Development (IPD)

Add Profile:

Select the appropriate Registered profile that you wish to attain.

Add Plan:

Create a plan for your IPD over a specific time period. You can choose the competences that you wish to include in your plan.

You can have more than one plan, if you prefer to break up the plan to cover different sets of competences, such as IEng and RSci, or shorter time periods.

Add Evidence:

Add your IPD evidence, selecting from the categories listed:

  • Work-based learning
  • Professional activity
  • Formal/Educational
  • Self-directed learning
  • Conferences/Events/Workshops
  • Other

You can also associate each item of evidence with specific competences from the Profiles that you have selected.

Add Report:

You can generate a report (Evidence based) for a specific time period which shows what you have achieved for example in 6 months or a year.

You can also generate a report (Competence based) which shows what evidence you have gathered versus specific competences that you are trying to achieve.

Send for review:

You can send any Plan, Evidence or Report for review by your mentor, colleague or IOM3 as appropriate.

IOM3 will request to see your IPD evidence when you apply for Registration.

B) If you already have a Registration and need to record Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

You don't need to "Add a profile", you can immediately upload evidence and this will be added to your CPD record.

Add Plan (optional):

To derive maximum benefit from your CPD, we suggest that you create a plan. Create a plan over a specific time period; we recommend one calendar year.

You need to bear in mind the requirements of your registered status - CEng, CEnv, CSci etc – and the guidelines provided by IOM3 for CPD.

Add Evidence:

Add your CPD evidence, selecting from the categories listed

  • Work based learning
  • Professional activity
  • Formal/Educational
  • Self-directed learning
  • Conferences/Events/Workshops
  • Other

Add Report:

For review and reporting purposes, you should generate a report for a specific time period – we recommend one report for each calendar year. This is much easier than sending individual items of evidence for review.

Send for review:

You have the facility to send your CPD report for review to individuals of your choice. This option will be the one you should use to send your record to IOM3, should it be selected for review. Please send a full report and not individual items of CPD!
