The Packaging Society mission
- To be recognised as the leading body for individual professionals involved in the packaging world.
- To promote the science, design, engineering, technology and sustainable development of packaging and its practical applications.
- To provide leadership, qualification, professional recognition and development to our members.
- To deliver knowledge, information and networking services to our membership and the wider packaging community.
As part of IOM3, the Packaging Board have been working hard these last couple of years to improve networking with the other divisions and to raise our profile within the general organisation. We have also been working hard to update the training programme and to improve networking via the regions.
This work is well underway and reaping many rewards. A big thank you to all those who have given their time and energy to these tasks.
With one of the largest membership groups within the IOM3 organisation, we are well placed to have significant influence and are certainly seen as one of the more active Technical Divisions. Involvement with conferences, Congress and attendance at other divisional meetings has all allowed us to make our mark within the group.
The website is now fully integrated into IOM3 corporate style and has become a valuable tool for the Board, individual members and local groups to use to promote events and activities. We have also streamlined the regional sites and these too bear the refreshed Packaging Society livery.
With a discussion forum, daily news feeds and other information pages, it has become an excellent focus for members to air views, prompt debate and get answers to technical queries.
The Starpack Awards are an important part of both The Packaging Society and to the wider IOM3 organisation. As owners of the Starpack brand, we continue to develop the competition, now operating at Student, Schools and Industry, level. The quality of entries continues to rise with categories continuously reviewed to reflect the changing and innovative the such as Business and People Awards have allowed us to recognise the people and organisations behind some of the new technology we see in the market. This year the Starpack awards ceremony was in London and hosted by the London and South East Region Packaging Society.
Training has continued to grow within the Packaging Division and the IOM3 staff have worked hard with companies around the UK to offer and develop NVQ and specialist courses to allow them to improve the knowledge of key staff within their organisations. This has also included and collaboration with the DBA to include a module within our own programme. As one of the least highly skilled industries in the country it should certainly be an area we can continue to expand and develop ourselves as a centre of excellence.
IOM3 has undertaken a significant new investment in The Boilerhouse site in Grantham which has become the host for the technical library from London, conference and meeting facilities and base to host the Starpack judging and events as well as other prestigious events throughout the year. Working with some of the key suppliers in the materials world, the building brings cutting edge design and execution which will showcase new materials and applications.
We will continue to work hard in making The Packaging Society even more effective for you, the valued membership.
