Judging completed - WorldStar 2010
The World Packaging Organisation held its second annual meeting and the first part of the WorldStar Judging in Istanbul, Turkey, from 13-17 September 2010
In the presence of 35 representatives from the packaging associations of 20 countries, the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) held its second and last meeting of 2010 on 13-17 September in Istanbul, Turkey.
Hosted by ASD, the Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association, the meeting encompassed the first part of the WorldStar judging process that, this year, was divided into two parts. Entries received before 20 August were judged in Istanbul on 15 September. Entries received between 20 August and 15 October have now been judged by the same jury using an online process.
In Istanbul, the 24 jury members, including an International Packaging Press Organisation (IPPO) member, judged 250 packages – 44 from India, 37 from Japan, 33 from Turkey, 27 from China, 18 from Mexico, 11 from the USA, nine from France, nine from Hungary, nine from Spain, seven from the Czech Republic, six from Switzerland, five from Russia, four from Ukraine, four from Poland, four from Israel, four from Slovenia, three from the UK, two from the Netherlands, and two from Germany. Thailand, Austria, Brazil, Colombia and Latvia each had one entry. A further 28 entries from Norway, Finland, Germany, Singapore, Brazil and Denmark were judged online.
The results will be announced later this year and the winners honoured in a ceremony during Interpack in Düsseldorf next May. Starpack had some great industry winners this year and yet only three entries were received into the WorldStar Awards from the UK. Entries are still open for WorldStar in 2011.
