IOM3 and CIWM jointly submit representation on Comprehensive Spending Review 2020
IOM3 and the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) have together submitted written representation on the HM Treasury Comprehensive Spending Review 2020 (CSR2020).
Interest groups, individuals and representative bodies can submit a written representation to HM Treasury to comment on government policy or suggest new policies to include in CSR2020.
IOM3 and CIWM recommend that in order to deliver the significant contribution that resources and waste management can make to the important government priorities around meeting net zero carbon emissions targets, levelling-up the economy and providing good quality jobs, the CSR 2020 should address the following areas:
- Delivery of the proposed ambitious policy frameworks such as extended producer responsibility and consistency of collection
- Tackling waste crime
- Regulation and resilience
IOM3 CEO Colin Church says, ‘Meeting the Government’s ambitions to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions to net zero won’t be achievable without greater resource efficiency, and that means a stronger policy framework for resource and waste management. At the same time, the sector can provide a wide variety of jobs at all skill levels and across the country. Investment in this area can therefore help a number of government objectives. IOM3 members have a strong interest in tackling climate change and improving resource efficiency and management, so we are delighted to be able to make this joint submission with CIWM.’

IOM3 is also supporting the National Engineering Policy Centre Spending Review response and full details of this will be available in the coming days.
