IOM3 on inclusivity
The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) prides itself on valuing inclusivity and stands in solidarity with the #BlackLivesMatter movement in the fight against racism, especially in the light of the shocking events in the USA and subsequent protests.
IOM3 is committed to the principle of parity of esteem towards all of its members and other stakeholders in both its activities and membership processes.
‘The Institute has zero tolerance to unfair discrimination on whatever basis. In the light of recent events, we are reaffirming our strong and active opposition to racism in all its forms,’ said Dr Colin Church, IOM3 Chief Executive. ‘In addition, as individual professionals our members must adhere to the Institute’s code of professional conduct and treat everyone with respect and dignity in all their professional interactions.’
We are committed to ensuring the inclusion of all members regardless of race, gender, nationality, religious beliefs, gender identity, colour, age, marital status, sexual orientation, disabilities, ancestry, personal appearance, or any other basis not relevant to scientific and engineering merit. No one should ever face unfair discrimination for whatever reason as a member of IOM3.
IOM3 will not stay silent in the face of racism, we will speak out and we will listen and support people of colour making sure all are heard. We are proud to have a truly diverse community across the world and are committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusivity within IOM3, while recognising there is still more to be done.
