In the lead up to Christmas, IOM3 is pleased to launch its final window display of 2019 on the theme of gallium-nitride-based LEDs, inspired by the work of Professor Sir Colin Humphreys CBE FRS FREng FIMMM, Past President of IOM3 (2002–2003).

SIr Colin Humphreys gave a presentation on his work to IOM3 in February 2019 at the Institute's 150th anniversary Inauguration Day. He spoke about the work pioneered by Dandan Zhu into creating GaN based LEDs that could significantly reduce the cost of LEDs and help to reduce global electricity use by 15%.

Humphreys stressed the importance of the technology, making reference to a report published in 2016 by Goldman Sachs ‘The Low Carbon Economy: Technology in the Driver’s Seat’ which examined the financial capabilities of LED lighting and growth opportunities associated with LEDs.

A special thanks to Sir Colin for inspiring the display, and to the IOM3 Design Team for making it possible. Make sure you get involved on social media using the hashtags #WarrenStreetWindow
