Winners of the 2013 Plastics Industry Awards were announced last week by comedian Tim Vine at a prestigious black-tie event in London. The sell-out occasion attracted around 800 guests, including supplier companies, OEM manufacturers, plastics processors, consultants, trainees and designers.

Plastek UK (an injection and blow-moulder specialising in complex packaging for the highly competitive FMCG market) came away with the coveted trophy for Processor of the Year. Distrupol held onto the title of Polymer Distributor for the third consecutive year and Charmaine Bowers, operations manager at Polymer Training & Innovation Centre was presented with the Personal Contribution Award in recognition of her work in supporting the plastics industry throughout her career.

Industrial Product Design of the Year was won by Boddingtons Plastics and Design Edge for the Arc EndoCuff colonoscope sleeve. Robert Dooley of Buff Industrial Design was named Young Designer of the Year. Entrants for this category had to take their idea through various stages from concept to prototype and Robert was praised by judges for his ‘all-encompassing approach’.

Steve Crowhurst, events director at Crain Communications, which organises the awards, said: ‘Despite tough economic conditions we continue to see companies investing in training and technology, expanding their businesses and demonstrating the true expertise and creativity of the UK’s plastics industry.
