The
Surface Engineering Division Board invites entries to the Young Surface
Engineers’ Workshop and Lecture Competition at Materials Congress 2012 on the
theme, ‘Materials for sporting performance, and their contribution to infrastructure
and sustainability’.

Following
on from the success of the previous events, the Surface Engineering Division
Board of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, through the Coatings
and Surface Treatments Committee, is once again pleased to be holding a Young
Researchers’ Lecture Competition.

This
competition is open to all young researchers below the age of 35 from both
industry and academia involved in surface engineering. Whilst content is
important, contestants will primarily be judged on their presentation skills,
quality of slides, keeping to time and ability to answer questions from the
audience. There will be a cash prizes for the winners donated by Indestructible
Paints. The workshop will involve active participation from delegates and use
will be made of a simulation tool to understand the interaction between the
selection, implementation cost and delivery performance of a surface engineered
product.

The
workshop will be facilitated by engineers with experience in the introduction
of new product technology into industrial markets. The workshop is open to all
engineers and scientists engaged or interested in the application, research and
implementation of surface coatings in industrial markets. The deadline for the
submission of abstracts is 28 May 2012. Abstracts should be submitted via the
on-line system.
