Fuji Seal Europe have
won the top accolade at the Starpack Awards, scooping the prestigious Superstar
Award for their
Henkel Vernel - Fabric
Softener/Fuji Seal entry.

Stephen Jarrold
from Denny Bros, a sponsor of the awards, announced the top-secret industry
award for all-round excellence in the competition, which stole the show and was
applauded for its appeal and usability in the wider market.
Joaquin Muntane and Peter Westrop from Fuji Seal were welcomed to the
stage and presented with the award. Stephen highlighted numerous comments from
the judges, including, ‘the first to market with laser cut out, which gives
visibility of the product and can be used for other applications to show fill
levels’.

Lahti University of Finland triumphed in the student awards, picking up five golds,
four silver, two bronze and five sponsored awards. As a result the university
was honoured with the Eric Dickens Memorial Award, an award which recognises
the best overall entries from a college or university. In addition, Tuomas
Orispaa from the university picked up the Champion Award and Innovation Award for his entry in a
difficult category for new uses for corrugated board. Tuomas’ container for a
kitchen knife was commended for its simple but functional design, with judges
saying ‘it is a delight to look at’.

The awards ceremony
took place at the Boilerhouse in Grantham on 12 July. It
is the first time in the competition’s 53 year history that all entrants have
been brought together under one roof to celebrate their achievements, with an
aim to aid networking, in an industry that is difficult to recruit into. This
awards format was a resounding success, in a move that challenged convention and
captured the imagination of the industry.

Winners of the Starpack Awards are eligible
to go on to the highly acclaimed Worldstar Awards.
