Steel master class, lecture and dinner
On 26 September 2006 three consecutive events linked to the steel industry will take place. Organised by the Steel Division of the Institute, a master class entitled ‘Challenges in Steel Innovation’ will be followed by the Sir Bessemer Lecture and Dinner, all held in central London locations.
The master class is targeted at young managers and researchers, offering networking opportunities with authorities in the steel industry. Delegates are able to pre-select one of five expert-led groups in which they will be based for the day, feeding their results to the other groups at the end of the session. The master class is being held at 1 Carlton House Terrace, and will be followed by a lecture at the same venue.
Professor Harry Bhadeshia as winner of the 2006 Bessemer Gold Medal will present the Sir Bessemer Lecture on ‘Steels and the Science of Scale’. Bhadeshia, from the University of Cambridge, received the award for his commitment to the steel industry. The lecture focuses on steels of differing dimensions and lengths, and considers their potential applications. There is no fee for attending the lecture.
The Sir Henry Bessemer Dinner will take place in the evening of 26 September at the Royal Automobile Club, Pall Mall - a short walk from Carlton House Terrace. Places are limited and must be booked in advance.
