Associate Member (AIMMM)

The Associate Member grade (AIMMM) is recognition from the Institute of your experience, knowledge and understanding in a technical discipline associated with the Institute.

The work of an Associate Member demands a practical approach, sound technical judgement and personal responsibility for maintaining and managing applications of current and developing technology in materials and natural resources in one or more of the following: exploration, extraction, processing, forming, selection, application, development, research, manufacturing, reuse, repurposing and recycling.

Suitable applicants for this grade:

  • hold the minimum of a RQF Level 5/SCQF Level 8 qualification such as a HND or equivalent qualification, in a relevant engineering, science, technology or environmental subject
  • have at least 3 years relevant working experience. This can include time spent completing a PhD

Individuals are more than welcome to apply for AIMMM before looking to attain Professional Member (MIMMM) in the fullness of time. If you do not have enough experience or the minimum qualification for AIMMM, you might be eligible for one of our graduate grades: Professional Graduate (ProfGradIMMM) or Graduate (GradIMMM).

How to apply for Associate membership

In the first instance you will need to submit the following documents, and we will then take you through the application process.

  • a copy of your CV/resume.
  • a copy of your degree/qualification(s) certificates, unless these have previously been submitted to the Institute.

Application for Professional Registration

Those looking to apply for professional registration for example as a Registered Scientist (RSci) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng), must hold the membership grade of AIMMM or MIMMM or FIMMM at the time of application.
