Member communities

IOM3 has a number of groups and committees that provide a focus for activities for members of different grades and at various stages of their career.

Student & Early Career Committee

Student Members and those in an early career stage under account for approximately one third of the Institute's total membership. The SECC dates back to 1967 and is one of the longest running committees in the Institute's history. The SECC organises events and is involved in activities such as the Young Persons' Lecture Competition, Young Persons' World Lecture Competition, Art Lecture, Matopoly and Road to Chartership events.

Students

IOM3 is keen to engage with students and has a package of benefits to support both undergraduates and postgraduates during their studies. We run several different student competitions in various activity sectors. Students can also benefit from various awards, prizes, grants and bursaries.

Technician Members

Associate and Technician Members of the Institute play an important role in helping to develop new technology and in ensuring the smooth running of current technology. IOM3 is developing a new initiative, M3, aimed at supporting Technician and Associate Members in their careers. Information about Technician membership

Women in Materials, Minerals & Mining

The Women in Materials, Minerals & Mining Group was formed in 2012 and provides a focus for women members within IOM3. The Group has held several events on mentoring, networking and education, and organised a celebration of the first National Women in Engineering Day in June 2014.

Fellows' Lounge

The Fellows’ Lounge provides a focus for our most senior grade of membership. Relevant news and events, reference information, access to e-zine versions of Institute magazines, selected presentations and profiles of Fellows.
