Materials Society of Cumbria president Andy Thomas was recently honoured with an Outstanding Service Award by IOM3 in recognition of over 10 years of active membership of the Materials Society of Cumbria, of which 7 have been spent as President.

Andy, who has been a professional member of IOM3 since 1975, began attending the Matsoc while working in Cumbria and commuting weekly from Glasgow in 1994, and began regular attendance shortly afterwards before moving to Cumbria in 2000.

From 1975 to 1992 whilst working for Rolls-Royce in Derby he was also active in the East Midlands Metallurgical Society winning their Essay Competition in 1977.

Andy is the third of Matsoc's members to have received such an award in the past 10 years, following Gerry Eggers in 2000 and Eric Ivison in 2008.
