Young People's Event

London and SE Packaging Society
,
18 Jul 2011

On a balmy evening in London, around 50 assorted students, young persons
and not so youngs (!!!) gathered at 1 CHT and were treated to an
extended seminar provided by L&SEPS.

Preceding the seminar, drinks and a light buffet were kindly sponsored
by Emerald Creative and enjoyed by all the attendees.  Of particular
interest to some of our Michigan State University student guests was the
“London Pride” ale... the local brew!

Dr Mark Caul from Marks and Spencer provided the “Retailer's
Perspective” on the world of packaging which was then expanded upon by
Keith Barnes who delivered a refreshing view on the novelty and
innovation that might address the retailer desires from around the
globe.  Our own Barry Jones then delivered a most interesting talk on
the use of waste.....sorry Co-Product from sugar beet in creating trays
and shapes that may one day knock the humble egg box “off its perch”!
The seminar element was wrapped up by some insight on MSU and the
services it offers to the students and indeed the wider audience through
its extensive research programmes.

In recognition of the collaboration between UK and MSU, Ron Iwaszkiewicz
was made a Fellow of the Institute and presented with his certificate.

After the formal part of the evening, informal networking and another drink or two was enjoyed by all before leaving for home.
