Job Purpose:

This role is all about enabling innovation for a multitude of global customers and growing our technical expertise. As a Principal Technical Engineer, you will be leading the creation of new and novel construction methods and processes, alongside the Operations Manager and Business Manager.

This role is pivotal to the growth and development of our Structures business and will involve a breadth of skills and knowledge including, setting technical standards, final approval and sign off of potential test outcomes and reporting, and the ability to confidently deliver presentations at conferences and marketing events as a thought leader in the marketplace.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical review and approval of commercial quotations and scopes to clients, ensuring that the work set out is clear and unambiguous; detailed to prevent mission creep by the client; and understandable by the test engineers.
  • Final approval of what a test outcome might be for a client from a given proposal.
  • Oversight of the management of Calibration (scheduling, measurement and recording) of all items and equipment in the Mellor Laboratory.
  • Ensure Test equipment is relevant, appropriate and has clear operating and use specifications that can be proven.
  • Final sign off for all reports and reviews, raising the standards of reporting and reviewing to allow final sign off for Senior Leaders.
  • Set the standards to the technical team in terms of technical skills, competence and relevant training to ensure the team remain at proper level of skills and expertise to be competent technical authority.
  • Set and monitor the required level of expertise and competency required, and attained, by the engineering team in Construction, v/v the market needs and the engineers’ personal capacity.
  • Be a thought leader in the marketplace, able to deliver presentations at conferences and marketing events
  • Collaborate with Marketing to ensure messaging is technically correct and market engaging.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a degree in an engineering discipline

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

  • 5-10 years’ experience in industry; construction and/or building systems
  • Proven experience in management and leading a team
  • A creative, critical thinker
  • A natural problem solver with an innate curiosity
  • Detail orientated and process driven
  • Ability to work to and meet strict deadlines
  • Collaborative approach
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to work in a one team manner to resolve any challenges arriving internally or externally
