We are now looking for a HM Principal Inspector of Mines to join us on a full-time, permanent basis, working 37 hours per week.

The role
As a HM Principal Inspector of Mines, you will be responsible for reviewing underground mining activities across Great Britain to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation.
You’ll inspect workplaces, investigate incidents and provide robust guidance and advice to duty holders, employee representatives and other stakeholders, promoting better health and safety practices.
Representing us at meetings with mine operators, trade associations, professional and standards bodies, you’ll champion safe mining engineering practice and support the development of industry guidance, standards and operational strategy.
Additionally, you will:
- Produce concise and accurate written reports
- Provide support and professional advice to colleagues on operational and regulatory matters
About you
As our HM Principal Inspector of Mines, you will need:
- To be a chartered Engineer, or the ability to work towards eligibility for professional membership and chartered registration
- Experience of managing or regulating complex mining operations
- Knowledge of the range of major hazards in underground mining and related activities and managing the associated risks
- A relevant academic Mining Engineering qualification; Degree, HND or equivalent
- Professional membership grade of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (or equivalent body)
- A full, valid driving licence
Please note, this role requires significant travel across the United Kingdom and frequent stays away from home.
