Job Description:

We currently have an opportunity for a Senior or Principal Level Geochemist to join our expanding Geochemistry team in our UK Practice. This opportunity will involve working on a diverse range of international projects. Our consultancy environment allows our staff to work in multi-disciplinary teams as well as on more specialised technical projects. The successful candidate will have significant previous consultancy experience and previous exposure to the mining sector is essential. This position involves working on a range of projects from our UK practice however overseas/ international travel will form a significant part of the role. We are looking for a well-established Geochemist with the critical factor being the ability to work within the existing UK team

Main Technical Responsibilities:

Providing competent consulting services to support SRK projects and clients as follows:

  • Providing Geochemistry services to ensure successful delivery of projects
  • Assisting with the Geochemistry aspects of multi-disciplinary project development studies
  • Developing projects and supervision of junior staff
  • Representing SRK professionally to SRK’s clients
  • Technical role in the characterization, supervision, data assessment and integration for mine waste. Knowledge of numerical analysis of data and advanced excel skills are a requirement for the position as is knowledge of numerical predictive calculations and suitable code to undertake such predictions for example PHREEQC, GEMS or GWB
  • Due to the nature of work undertaken in the UK office, knowledge of the issues associated with coal geochemistry is a definite advantage
  • Ability to present work and key ideas to clients, regulators and key stake holders in both technical and non-technical forums. Ability to cultivate a client base to support themselves and others along with track record of work winning. Geochemical assessment and numerical predictions associated with mine waste characterization

Essential Requirements:

  • A degree or equivalent in Geochemistry, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, preferably with a higher degree (MSc) or equivalent in geochemistry, applied or environmental geology
  • Specific experience gained in the characterization, supervision, data assessment and integration of the above on mine waste studies
  • Experience in Geochemistry, Mineral Processing, Environmental Geology within the mining industry is crucial and the majority of experience gained internationally including Knowledge of mining-related environmental issues
  • Excellent report and proposal writing skills requiring strong English language skills (verbal and written).  A second language would be an advantage but is not essential
  • A good understanding of one or more of; geochemistry, geology, mineral processing, water treatment and mineralogy
  • Experience using geochemical modelling software packages such as PHREEQC, MINTEQ, Geochemist’s Workbench, GEMS, HSC or Aspen
  • Experience in the analysis of large geochemical datasets, including quality control, data interpretation and reporting
  • Demonstrate a good understanding and application of health and safety in the laboratory, field and workplace
  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and critical analysis skills

Previous experience of undertaking environmental or geochemical monitoring and/or characterisation studies for a variety of natural resource commodities

  • Business development/marketing skills
  • Innovative and clear thinking, able to work with complex problems and to present ideas and data to colleagues and clients to find solutions
  • Registered or eligible to register with a professional organisation that satisfies Competent/ Qualified Person requirements under the JORC code and NI 43-101 guidelines
  • Right to work in the UK

Hours of Work:  Monday to Friday, 09.00-17.30(1/2-hour lunch break) 40 hours per week

Location: SRK UK, Cardiff, Wales.  Employees may be required to work at other locations as required and overseas travel will form a part of the role. Flexibility over UK base is also possible

Holidays:  29 to 33 working days per annum inclusive of bank and public holidays. Leave increases with length of service
