The Commercial Activities Board (CAB) is responsible for providing strategic, non-executive direction for the Institute’s non-membership revenue generating activities, whether undertaken by the Institute itself as primary purpose trading or by its commercial subsidiaries. These include (but are not limited to):

  • Academic and member publishing
  • Advertising and sponsorship
  • Conferences and events
  • Consultancy
  • Digital information and library services
  • Training
  • Venue hire

Further information can be found in the Institute’s Committee Terms of Reference Document at https://www.iom3.org/about-us/governance/annual-report-corporate-documents.html. CAB meets four times a year; once in person and three times online.

We are looking for someone with substantial commercial experience in either the private or charitable sectors, ideally with a strong strategic element. The successful applicant will be able to show a track record of leading groups of volunteers. We are open to nominations from candidates with a background in any of the many different activities and sectors of the Institute’s members.

The Chair is one of the Trustees of IOM3, and sits, along with around a dozen others, on the Executive Board (EB). The EB meets six times a year; once in person and five times online.

Nominees must be voting (corporate) members of the Institute in good standing, and must be eligible for appointment as a trustee (see https://www.gov.uk/guidance/charity-trustee-whats-involved for more information).

Nomination is by submission of:

  • a CV
  • a statement of why you think you should be considered for the role and what you propose to do as Chair of CAB, including what you plan to do to support members and to improve equality, diversity, and inclusion in this role.

These should reach Anita Horton [email protected] by 0800 on 2 October 2023. Please also contact Anita if you would like to arrange an informal discussion about the role with the CEO or President.

Don’t meet every requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At IOM3 we are building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may just be the right candidate for this or other roles.
