Awards Committee Member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IOM3)

Job description

The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) is a major UK science and engineering institution with a membership of over 15,000 in the UK and overseas.  IOM3 supports professionals in materials, minerals, mining and associated technical disciplines to become heroes of the transition to a low-carbon, resource efficient society, not villains. The IOM3 head office is in London, with regional offices in Grantham and Stoke-on-Trent, though much of our business these days is conducted online.

In our 151st year we are looking to strengthen our processes for judging our professional awards. We are therefore seeking up to four individual senior members with a strong background in materials, minerals or mining who have a passion for our communities to join the Awards Committee. We are particularly keen to ensure that membership of the Committee reflects the diversity of the Institute’s membership as a whole, both in terms of technical/professional background and gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc.

The roles involve one meeting each spring, plus a small amount of business conducted in correspondence. Two of the members will be initially appointed for two years and two for four years.
