CPD Scheme for quarry managers and responsible persons
Following discussions, a programme has been agreed through which we can assist responsible persons to demonstrate competence. This comprises of a 2 day Clay Quarry Management Course, supported by ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
The 2 day course and the CPD scheme which are administered by IOM3 are overseen by the Joint Approval Board (JAB). The JAB is made up of industry representatives, the BCC and IOM3.
1. The scheme is subject to external validation and is audited to ensure effective participation and achievement
2. Development can be recorded and tracked
3. Annual certification
4. Membership of IOM3 is included in the scheme package, which allows the participant to access all members benefits
What counts as CPD?
Broadly speaking, any activity which maintains a practitioner's competence by refreshing or extending their knowledge, understanding and skills. This scheme recognises six types of activity:
1. Work-based Learning - WBL
Such as formal or informal training in a new process, regulation or piece of legislation.
2. Professional activity - PA
Such as using your expertise to advise/audit oither locations or train or mentor colleagues, including new members of staff and site visitors.
3. Formal education - leading to qualification - FE
Such as refresher training for the Clay Quarry Management course.
4. Self-directed Learning - Proactive learning - SDL
Such as reading relevant journals, books, articles and websites.
5. Conferences, seminars and workshops - CSW
Such as attending or giving lectures, presentations and technical talks.
6. Other activities - OA
Such as participating in learned society activities as a result of your IOM3 membership or membership of other professional bodies.
The examples given against each type of CPD is by no means exhaustive. Further advice can be given on the suitablility of any activity or learning experience that a scheme participant may undertake by contacting IOM3.
The Scheme requires 35 hours of CPD per calendar year, or a proportion of that in cases where employment is not full time. The CPD programme focuses on the individual's needs and can easily be tailored to them.
How do I register
Complete and return the CPD registration form at the bottom of this page.
You can then print off the CPD recording form following registration which you will use to record your CPD hours. (an electronic copy of the form can also be sent to you if preferred)
You should discuss your CPD targets with a line manager and see if you can identify targets areas and plan activities that meet your needs.
